A 2026 Analysis Conducted by Heather Farlow and the Quemada Team
My name is Heather Farlow and I am an Environmental Science and Resource Management major at California State University Channel Islands. I am currently in the process of data collection for my Capstone focusing on stream cross-sections, longitudinal profiles, and stream function.
Myself and my team members Marisa Denninger, Austin Dent, Keiran Gisonno, as well as our mentor Dr. Linda O'Hirok, are conducting a watershed assessment post-fire on Santa Rosa Island. The biggest wildfire on Santa Rosa Island in recorded history occured in May 2026, and we want to collect post-fire data in the Quemada watershed focusing on stream profile and function, vegetation, and water quality. The data we collect will be precursory data to the upcoming Super El Niño.
